Park Place is the starting point for a look at Pawtucket's downtown. The Jonathan Baker House is a fine brick house in the Federal style, with its entrance porch on attenuated columns and a fan- and side-lighted door. Remodeled inside, it has lost its paired northern chimneys, but retains the two to the south and some fireplaces. Adjacent is the pinched and verticalized Park Place Congregational Church, a good example of the colonial revivalist penchant for composing in terms of “features” (in this instance from the Federal style) rather than the subordination of these within a larger geometrical scheme.
