In the late 1920s and 1930s, Albert Harkness, like other architects at the time, turned frequently to the English Regency and especially to the informal, playful aspects of resort and country villa architecture. Hence the piquant quality to the bow windows and the lacy metal porch on the garden side of this house, whereas the interior (not open to the public) retains Regency-inspired ornament inflected toward Moderne. The integration of the house with its walled garden and the street merits special notice.
