Again the familiar five-bay central-chimney format, with the traditional four-spot grouping of the peripheral windows pulled just sufficiently far from the entrance axis to maintain a tense equilibrium among the openings. The pilastered and pedimented door with leaded fanlight and, more unusually, a molded and dentiled cornice are handled with such discrimination that nothing appears meretricious. Downstairs window tops align with the height of the entrance pilaster caps, their splayed lintels projecting above. Commanding but not overwhelming, the door seems perfectly proportioned to the clapboard field that immediately surrounds it and, like the windows, beautifully equilibrated within the pattern of openings. In short, here are no surprises; just conservative building design so exquisitely and sensibly considered that it could hardly be bettered.
