The Storm of 1909 was responsible for the destruction of Bay City's Methodist, Catholic, and Episcopal churches. J. E. Large designed more durable brick replacements for the Methodist congregation (demolished) and the Episcopal parish of St. Mark's. His little red brick building, with its steeply pitched roofs and splayed and staged corner buttresses, possesses a quirkiness and charm that a more academically correct interpretation of an English country parish church might not have yielded.
