Gideon Egg House

This two-story, five-bay I-house with a double veranda was built by Swiss-born, Texas-bred merchant Gideon Egg in Texana, then moved to Edna. It is a Southern classic distinguished by crisply detailed frames surrounding six-over-six windows on both floors and central doors framed by sidelights and transoms. The next generation of the family stayed home: at 109 E. Brackenridge Street is the bungalow-type Alfred Egg House of 1913 and at number 113 is the cottage of Gideon Egg Jr. of 1899.
