Located on a 240-acre windswept island at the entrance to Oso Bay, a lesser inlet off the greater Corpus Christi Bay, the 8,600-student campus was incorporated into the Texas A&M system in 1993. The campus of its predecessor, Corpus Christi State University, designed by Caudill Rowlett Scott, was planned along a pedestrian axis with covered walks linking buildings that enclosed courtyards protected from the coastal wind and sun. The island also includes a complex of buff brick buildings inherited from the nearby U.S. Naval Air Station.
