Oliver was staff architect for the River Oaks Corporation from 1926 to 1931. During these five years he designed more than seventy-five houses in River Oaks. Oliver designed in all styles but his favorite was Spanish Mediterranean, of which this house, built for cash register company executive William A. Ryan and called “Casa a la Punta” because of its peninsular site, is the most exuberant. As a mark of the infectiousness that Oliver imparted to this house, not only the original owner but also all subsequent owners have furnished it in Spanish style.
