Eleven miles north of Randado, the complex is part of the conglomerate of nineteenth-century ranches throughout South Texas historically tied to artesian wells. Las Albercas includes a large, flat-roofed, caliche-block, fortified dwelling with a thirty-foot-high torreón (bastion) that may be glimpsed, at a distance, on the north side of the road immediately after crossing the creek.
