This civic design is executed in the Dallas firm's well-established Classical Revival style. It was from this red brick courthouse with prominent central block and underscaled side wings that Archer Parr and his son George (the “Duke of Duval”) dispensed favors to their supporters, using Duval County as their personal domain, thus ensuring the attention of “the national press [which] has always given wide publicity to our political pecadillos,” as penned by Walter W. Meek, Duval County auditor, in a 1969 letter.
