The only quality modern additions to Main Street, these two public buildings make simple but effective use of local limestone for their exterior walls, as well as such local elements as the overhang that shelters the front of the city hall. The two buildings are far more sympathetic to the architectural character of the town than the new post office farther west on Main Street, which is executed in orange brick. The coursed limestone masonry is similar in appearance to the Bank of Fredericksburg ( NB39) and the former Gillespie County Courthouse ( NB36).
