The house sits next to Round Lake over a portion of the original 315-acre Mexican land grant awarded to McGloin in 1828. The central-hall, Greek Revival, raised cottage is the last extant home of a Texas empresario, the title given to early pioneers who contracted with the Mexican government to bring settlers into Texas. Deeded in the 1970s by the McGloin family to the Corpus Christi Area Heritage Society, the house is open by appointment.
