Built to serve as the Texas pavilion at Hemis-Fair'68, this monumental structure now serves as an exhibition and research center for the state's history. From the outside, the inverted pyramid shape combined with the earthen berms that surround it recall a pre-Columbian image. Access to the building from the parking lot is along an elevated causeway across a sunken, granite-paved water garden. The exhibits provide the visitor with an excellent introduction to the history and cultures that came together in Texas.
