Boehlers Bar and Grill

An enormously popular establishment frequented by locals for its extensive menu and baked goods, as well as its bar, this is a recommended stop for a break on a tour of the city. Fritz Boehler, a brewmaster at the Pearl Brewery, built this two-story frame structure where his son operated the original bar and the F. Boehler and Son Simple and Fancy Groceries in what is now the dining room on the first floor. The second floor served as a residence for the family, but has been converted to office space. There is a slight tilt to the building due to flood damage in 1921, which can best be seen from across the street. Note the bracketed overhanging gallery on the second floor. Inside, the original bar is intact.
