Portofino Center, a lifestyle center, lies in Shenandoah, an incorporated suburban town that wraps around the northeast corner of The Woodlands. Pursuing the neo-traditional track with almost demented glee, Portofino (the name notwithstanding, its orientation is toward the Adriatic rather than the Mediterranean) unrolls Venice's Piazza San Marco into a linear strip center set back behind its parking lots from I-45. Franchise pad sites stud a Montgomery County version of the Grand Canal, which parallels the freeway frontage road.
