Since the 1850s, this property has been owned by the descendants of Catherine Hombach and Christopher Krehmeier, Germans who came to Texas in the late 1840s through the Port of Indianola. Their son, Herman—like his father, a carpenter—built this five-bay, side-gabled Gulf Coast cottage for his family, recycling components of an earlier family house on this site. The wrought-iron fence and stucco-faced gate piers capped with ball finials were salvaged from a large house on N. Liberty Street.
