The so-called Red Brick Ranch House (the color is closer to a buff-rose) was built by Heard on the half league he bought from John C. Clark in 1832. It is a more expansive version of the house type that Clark built ( WD22). A central-hall-plan, side-gabled house, Heard's house is two rooms deep rather than one. The roof is taller therefore, and the attic contains habitable space, as dormer windows attest. The house is still owned by descendants of Heard's daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Mentor Northington.
