Clayton designed numerous wooden churches for small-town missions of the Catholic Diocese of Galveston between the 1870s and the 1910s. The only one of these known to exist is the Methodist church in Boling. It began existence as Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City and was acquired by the Methodist congregation and moved to Boling after the Bay City parish built a larger church in 1950. It is a very straightforward version of the Southern vernacular church type.
