U.S. Post Office and Federal Building

-A A +A
1909, James Knox Taylor, Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury. 116 S. Main St.

This five-bay composition of round-arched windows between pairs of engaged Ionic columns appears to be based upon Bramante’s Vatican Belvedere upper court (after 1505). Columns, arches, and entablature are cream terra-cotta, and walls are tawny brick. The entablature with a brick frieze carries a stout balustrade.
