The inverted triangular profile of the Dallas City Hall, with its floors stepping northward over the vast plaza, is the most boldly sculptural of Pei’s work. A sense of balance is restored by three massive, curved towers that interrupt the horizontal rush of floor lines and appear to support the looming cantilevers. The long, rectangular plaza is divided diagonally into a paved triangle with a large round pool and fountain and a grass triangle with a casual bosque of trees.
