Folded planes of shimmering green glass rise sixty stories from a six-acre plaza (1986, Dan Kiley) of ethereal cypresses and gurgling water ponds. The abstract forms, set in isolation at the underdeveloped northwest corner of downtown, further deconstruct the typical glass box office tower, a freedom inaugurated by Philip Johnson’s Pennzoil Place (1976) in Houston. No other building in Dallas approaches this level of refined abstraction. A second matching tower was planned, but the recession in oil and real estate values prevented its construction.
