Salvation Army Building (Great National Life Insurance Company Building)

This is a typical garden office building of the 1960s with a raised second floor around an atrium, and its variations created the best of its type in north Dallas. A robust cast-in-place concrete frame with deep beams allows wide, unobstructed, floor-to-ceiling windows that are deeply recessed from the face of the structure. A unique aluminum screen of projecting triangular shades within a diagonal frame wraps the second floor, providing shade and deep texture. Dallas architect Gill was otherwise noted for his period-style houses in the Park Cities.
