Now isolated from its original residential neighborhood by the surrounding federal and county courthouse complex, Immaculate Conception, one of El Paso’s two oldest Catholic parishes, was founded as the town’s English-speaking parish. It was the pro-cathedral of the Diocese of El Paso from 1914 until 1917 and the site of the founding of the Knights of Columbus of Texas in 1902. The church’s simple gabled facade is bisected by a frontal tower that rises to an octagonal cupola and dome. Blue tile-work surrounds the round-arched entrance door. The two-story brick rectory was built in 1901.
