The Disciples of Christ, the oldest congregation in Fort Worth, was founded in 1855 by the Reverend A. M. Dean and first held services in the log cabin of the surgeon at the Fort Worth Post, Carroll Peak. The imposing Classical Revival limestone church has six-columned Corinthian porticos on its Throckmorton and W. 6th street sides and unusual dogleg staircases due to the building’s proximity to Throckmorton. An arcaded drum supports a copper dome ringed with bull’s-eye windows. The interiors and top-lit domed central worship space are in excellent condition and have been used for many preservation and architecture events over the years.
