Built with funding from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) on the site of the previous jail of 1894, the stucco-covered walls of the two-story structure are articulated with horizontal banding. Horizontal, steel window grilles and a curved canopy over the entrance add to the Streamlined Moderne design. The county museum is housed in the old jail and the adjacent stone firehouse.
