Isaac E. “Ike” Rose, a German immigrant, joined his family in Wills Point before moving to Dallas to make his fortune in real estate. He later donated the gleaming cast-in-place concrete fountain, which stands as a gateway to the Wills Point commercial area. The centerpiece of the fountain is an octagonal Tuscan column on a raised base, topped with a crowned sphere, and with circular planters (the original fountain basins). The fountain serves as a pedestrian refuge within the busy, brick-paved intersection. It has been the site of a century of political speeches and pep rallies. The monument is a lingering reminder of the pervasive impact of the City Beautiful movement inspired by Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition on small-town Texas.
