Schools have been located on this site since 1901. The current building was constructed with funding from the Public Works Administration (PWA). By 1936, Dallas architect Lemmon was near the height of his career designing schools and churches throughout Texas. His favored style was Georgian Revival, which he honed through numerous commissions at Southern Methodist University (DS70) in Dallas beginning in the 1920s. This school follows that pattern with its simple massing in red brick, a symmetrical facade with a stone surround at the entrance, and a gabled roof terminated at each end by paired, false chimneys.
