First United Methodist Church

-A A +A
1917. 204 W. Brown St.

Classicism takes an eye-catching turn at this church built entirely of local marble. The random rectangular blocks have extremely rough rusticated surfaces. The church is located at the corner of the property, facing west, but the entrance portico is on the south side, with four columns atop a broad flight of steps. The pediment is smooth-surfaced and plain, while the four columns are so irregular as to appear precarious, like softened marsh-mallows.
