Buttery Company (The Southern Hotel)

The two-story hotel was built by local stonemasons John Goodman and J. K. Finlay for owner J. W. Owen with two-foot-thick walls of rubble stone with a stucco finish. The peculiar hipped gambrel roof, enclosing a third floor, was added after 1883 when W. A. H. Miller bought the hotel. A one-story extension (demolished) housed the lobby, dining, and kitchen areas. The two-level gallery on the east and south sides is a reconstruction of the original, but the rooms are entered by an interior central hall. The Buttery Company, the current owner of the building, is a family-owned lumber and distributing company that has been in business in Llano since 1892.
