The completion of the new city hall the same year as the Saenger Theater (LT34) created a de facto civic center for Texarkana. These two back-to-back buildings are compatible in style and material. The Beaux-Arts classical Municipal Building incorporates creamy terra-cotta detailing to complement its tawny brick exterior. Both buildings have a piano-nobile second floor, featuring either pilasters or a colonnade that supports an entablature and a parapet wall. Where the theater’s facade has shallow pilasters, the Municipal Building has full-depth fluted Ionic columns and a bold cornice.
