Built by cotton merchant William B. Wise, this is a rare Texas example of a Queen Anne house clad entirely in masonry. The two-and-a-half-story residence is constructed of red brick on a rock-faced stone base. The heavy masonry facade and prominent two-story angled bay are balanced by delicate Eastlake detailing on the porch that wraps the front and east sides and the front gable’s bargeboard. A substantial one-story carriage house remains on the property.
Across the street at 433 W. Washington is the frame Bailey-Ragland House (1890) built by the manager of the Cotton Oil Company in Paris. It is a more picturesque version of Queen Anne.
