Clarksville physician E. S. Look selected a pattern book design published in 1875 in New York architect E. C. Hussey’s pattern book Home Building (1877). The house was constructed by German-born builder Otto Glosnop and incorporates references to a Swiss chalet with its unusually extended gables, mixing this influence with the Eastlake style. Bargeboards that give the appearance of icicles run beneath the second-story roof eaves, around the cornice of the front porch, and around three sides of the house at the second-story level. Equally remarkable are the delicate filigreed trusses supported on slender brackets beneath the deep overhangs of the roof on the house’s south and east elevations. The Look House is one of the most original pattern book residences in the state.
