Colorado City originated as a cattlemen’s camp in 1877. The arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1881 made it a shipping point for cattle and led to the town’s designation as county seat. The spare, three-story, red brick courthouse has a stand of six Ionic columns at the second and third floors of the facade.
