The only surviving structure in central Palestine relating to the once prosperous and prominent cotton industry is this corrugated-metal gin compound. The Eureka Gin Manufacturing Company built structures here in the 1880s, and later businesses added to the assemblage, which was replaced with a new gin building in 1937. The ad hoc appearance of the complex’s numerous buildings is typical of gin construction, even though what now stands was built at one time. The gin operated into the 1950s; the equipment was removed in 1960. A restaurant and an antiques store have occupied the structure in recent years.
