Ochiltree County Courthouse

Perryton was founded in 1919 on the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway and was designated the seat of Ochiltree County. The three-story buff brick courthouse resembles Hansford County Courthouse (TP11), with its projecting central block, lower wings, and limestone-framed entrance. It is unique among Texas county courthouses, however, in its split-level arrangement, where the floor level of the lobby of the central block is one-half level below the adjacent office floors. The architects were based in Hutchinson, Kansas. From the courthouse S. Main Street continues north to cross the railroad tracks at grade, where an imposing ensemble of grain elevators announces the connection.
