This courthouse, which replaced one built in 1903 when the county seat moved from Texline to Dalhart, is a handsome Beaux-Arts classical building, although the Alamo gables on the parapets are a gesture of Texan regionalism. The courthouse occupies a half-block landscaped park, with mature trees, within the downtown commercial district rather than the typical full-block public square. The courthouse is constructed of red brick with two-story-high cast-stone Ionic columns at the principal entrance. A fourth floor is placed above the entablature as an extended attic.
