Assateague Lighthouse

The Coast Guard operates the lighthouse, which replaced an 1831 structure. Standing 142 feet high and built of brick, it is one of the last operating lighthouses on the East Coast. Adjacent is the former U.S. Coast Guard Station (1922), which served until after World War II as a life-saving station. The complex includes a quarters for personnel, a boathouse, a lookout tower, and launches for boats.
