An entire block of historic West Franklin Street was demolished to make room for this ungraceful apartment building. It was one of a number of high rises built in the 1960s and 1970s that threatened to change the character of the old avenue. Today, however, the historic structures and the high rises coexist and give the street a vitality it would not otherwise possess.
