These two dignified town houses blend well together but have decorative elements that compete. The Samuel Putney House, at number 1010, is richly Italianate, with an ornate cast iron porch and wonderful wall painting in the parlors. The Stephen Putney House next door has a simpler facade with a two-story cast iron veranda manufactured by the Phoenix Iron Foundry of Richmond.
