The Regency design work here compares to that of the Wickham-Valentine House in Richmond, making Penick House the most sophisticated antebellum house in Henrico County. The stucco exterior has recessed panels, and offset windows, also set in recessed panels, create a quirky fenestration pattern in the rear wall. The low hipped roof and rigid symmetry bespeak an architect's hand, but none has been identified. The house, once the center of a large farm, has been crowded in by 1950s subdivision houses.
