One of the oldest dwellings in the neighborhood and a good example of a surviving plantation-in-town, this property still consists of the two original lots that extended from Grace to Franklin Street. The brick retaining walls mark the extensive regrading of Franklin Street. The brick house was built by its original owner, Anthony Turner, who was a master brickmason and a Richmond magistrate. He showed off his skills in the massive chimneys, rusticated jack arches, and segmental arches over windows.
