Built as a residence for pharmacist Mr. Kearfott, this Colonial Revival building has a two-story, three-bay facade with large six-over-six sash windows that contrast with its unusually petite gabled dormers. The full-length front porch with Doric columns and a balustrade is echoed by a side porch on the left. Grocer Wade Wood bought the house in 1922. In 1990 the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society purchased and renovated the house. Behind it is the reconstructed Tyler Log School (c. 1885), originally located off U.S. 29 in Madison Heights where it was in use until the early twentieth century. The entrance to this one-room building is in the gable-end wall.
