This two-story brick house built for Waddy Cobbs is one of Bedford County's plantation mansions that were built piecemeal. It began as a side-passage Federal house with a modillion cornice. A few years later the north wing was constructed, but not until c. 1900 was the south kitchen wing added. The kitchen wing, originally frame, was brick veneered during the 1928 alterations when the wings acquired their dormers, and the front porch, based on the Maryland mansion Homewood, was added. The elaborate north wing, like the central block, has jack arches over the openings, but they are unusual in that they are beaded and have stylized sunbursts.
