Sandusky

Slightly predating the city's other Federal houses, and a grand example of its type, this two-story five-bay brick house was originally the centerpiece of an extensive plantation. Sandusky served as Union headquarters during the 1864 Battle of Lynchburg. In 2001 the Historic Sandusky Foundation purchased the house and transformed it into a museum illustrating the city's Civil War history. The handsome interiors contain many furnishings that were there during the Union occupancy.
