1880. 5773 Franklin Pike, 11.5 miles northeast of Floyd

This large, brick Queen Anne house was built for Oscar and Ruth Huff on their fifteen-hundred-acre farm. The house has a full-width two-story front porch with Eastlake detailing. Also on the property are a center-aisle barn, a springhouse, and a general store, which served as a regional stagecoach stop on the Floyd-Franklin turnpike road (now VA 640). For many residents of northeastern Floyd County, the road provided the best way to transport agricultural and industrial products by wagon from the Five Mile Mountain area to the nearest railway station at Ferrum in Franklin County. The Huffs' brick store offered a convenient stopping point.
