Although there is no documented evidence that George Washington was associated with this building, local lore persists that it was his surveyor's office in 1749–1752 and his headquarters in 1756–1757 while he supervised the construction of Fort Loudoun. The west end of the one-story gable-roofed building is stone, the center frame, and the east end log. It is now a museum.
