Little construction took place on Mountain Road from about 1850 until 1880 when new development began again. Continuing the family business, Howard Cosby, son of Dabney Cosby Jr., continued in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and built this brick house, one of the few documented structures known by him. The multi-gabled two-story house with its wraparound porch and bracketed cornice is a typical example of late-nineteenth-century architecture, more like a good builder's house than one of the more sophisticated structures of his father and grandfather.
