The modest, wood-frame house built for attorney John N. Baxter is one of four Bellows Falls examples of a regional Greek Revival design, variations of which appear throughout villages in northern Windham and Windsor counties. The regional feature is a one-story entrance porch with primitive fluted Doric columns inset on one side of the gable-front house. Beyond the usual full eaves entablature and corner pilasters, these Bellows Falls examples are also embellished with pointed-arched louvered fans above the windows, a motif more typical of Gothic design. This example also retains its original ell, with segmental-arched bays, and a board-and-batten carriage house.
