The 1920s explosion in automobile ownership coincided with a fad for things Egyptian that flourished after the discovery in 1922 of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. That may explain why a modern auto-parts store and service garage was dressed in ancient Egyptian motifs. The small, flat-roofed structure features a stepped parapet with a cornice featuring the winged disk of the Egyptian sun god Ra, set against a background of reeds. Yellow terra-cotta tiles cover the storefront, contrasting vividly with the blue terra-cotta cornice. Piers flanking the entrance terminate with stylized torches, and lotuses cap the window mullions.
