Clay County Courthouse

-A A +A
1977–1978, R. L. Wilson and Jerry R. Goff, Associated Architects. South side of Main St., opposite the Old Clay County Courthouse

One of the state's newest county courthouses, this red brick structure appears humble in comparison with its predecessor high on the hill across the way. Basically a square, it is two stories tall, but an arcade composed of open segmental arches fronting the Main Street facade makes it “read” as a single story. Side elevations carry out the motif with blind arcades that contain vertical bands of windows.
