This circular park structure with open arches was built of rough sandstone blocks to cover a public fountain. Nearby a block of coal rests on a pedestal, and across Main Street is a natural outcropping of bituminous coal, framed by a sandstone surround. The Sewell seam at Mt. Hope averaged 5 feet in thickness and was mined and sold as New River Smokeless Coal.
